NOT YET CONNECTED!!
In the early Spring of 1997 we (Lenore and Ralph) set off on a road
trip "around North America" which was planed to be a circular journey
that would include the west coast of the US, a coast to coast trip
across Canada, the east coat of the US and into Mexico. Well, of course
we didn't manage to get quite as far as they'd hoped, but it was still
quite an adventure and in the end a tantalisingly brief and incomplete
introduction to that immense continent that left us wanting to explore
much more. One day we will!
Our transport was a Chevvy panel van which had a couple of extra windows and was fitted with interior shelves and cupboards. We travelled heavy! We took masses of camping equipment, lots of books, our cameras and a lot of technology, because we'd decided to publish our journey on the web as we travelled. In those days before everything became pocket-sized, we had to take two Mac laptops, a CD burner, a scanner and loads of cables. You can see the disassembled contents here!
For the first leg of the journey we were accompanied by Erica, who left us after a few weeks to commence a brave solo bicycle adventure through the US.
The easiest way to tackle the journey is to divide it into states and provinces:
- The journey begins with a malfunctioning van!
- From snow to the lights of Vegas
- Warm at last!
- We fall in love with the dunes
- British Columbia
- Home, and a set-back
- Lenore and a place called Ralph
- We fail at French
- Prince Edward Island
- We visit the seawed museum
- Sea loughs and moose
- Nova Scotia
- Fun at Fundy
- Maine, Michigan and points west!
- Another Ralph
