EDINBURGH AND NORTHUMBERLAND
In August 2006 we went to the Edinburgh Festival and then to Northumberland.
For us the Festival was OK but not spectacular, though we enjoyed the premiere of Little Miss Sunshine and a couple of exhibitions, but much of the Fringe left us cool if not cold. But that means we'll have more fun next time (we tend to go every two or three years).
We stayed, of course, in the Greenhouse B&B, where we vegans are always treated and fed royally.
Then we moved focus to Berwick-upon-Tweed, where we rented a tiny cottage at the north end of the town. We decide that we liked Berwick. It is full of interest, has nice pubs, enough shops, plenty of old buildings to please Ralph and even some industrial archaeology. It's also very easy to get a wonderful stretch of coastline, with long beaches and romantic ruined castles.
