amble up to Cortijo de la Civila
being Christmas Day we rose latish, which meant a full day hike
was out. Plus we didn't want to get lost again. So we chose to walk
up the track we'd turned away from yesterday, up the Barranco de
la Coladilla, and to see how far we got. It had the advantage that
it was uphill all the way out and downhill all the way back! It
was also a bloody great double line on the map so couldn't be missed!
reached Cortijo de la Civila before running out of time, making
it a four and a bit hour ramble including a snack/rest at the top,
with some great views and not a whitewashed holiday home to be seen...
WALK UP THE BARRANCO DE LA COLADILLA
We'd parked the car under the trees at the beginning of the track,
which is just outside the Cueva de Nerja, so we decided to have
a look after we got back down. Our guide book is a bit sniffy about
the caves, but we thought they were pretty good, and that they haven't
done too badly in creating access and lighting it. OK so there's
a theatre in the middle, but otherwise there are some fantastic
stalactites and stalagmites. Also on Christmas Day early evening
there were only a few others there, so we got to feel the scale
of the caves without looking over shoulders. We enjoyed it.
